Wimbledon Champion Linda Noskova Returns to Grand Slam Action at the US Open

Czech tennis star Linda Noskova has returned to Grand Slam competition at the US Open, determined to move forward from her historic Wimbledon triumph and approach the season's final major with the same focus that carried her to her first Grand Slam title.

The 21-year-old Noskova enjoyed a life-changing summer after winning Wimbledon, becoming the tournament's youngest women's singles champion in 15 years. Her breakthrough success brought widespread recognition, including a meeting with Czech President Petr Pavel and celebrations attended by thousands of people in her hometown of Vsetín.

The Wimbledon victory also propelled Noskova from world No. 12 to a career-best No. 6 in the WTA rankings. However, the Czech star says her approach to the sport remains unchanged.

“For me, it has always been very important to focus on each match like nothing ever happened before, no success or no failure,” Noskova said, stressing the importance of treating every tournament as a fresh start.

She demonstrated that resilience in her opening match at the US Open on Monday. After trailing 5-2 in the first set against 78th-ranked American Katie Volynets, Noskova produced a strong comeback to win 7-5, 6-1.

Noskova said her Wimbledon triumph had given her one crucial lesson: the belief that she can go all the way and lift a Grand Slam trophy. She defeated fellow Czech player Karolina Muchova in the Wimbledon final, becoming the youngest champion at the All England Club since Petra Kvitova in 2011.

Yet, Noskova is keen not to remain caught up in her past success. She even avoided mentioning Wimbledon during the opening minutes of her media session after arriving in New York, later admitting that shifting her focus was intentional.

With the women's draw at the US Open appearing wide open, Noskova is now focused on the next challenge. The celebrations may be over, but the confidence gained from Wimbledon remains and the Czech star hopes to use it in her pursuit of another Grand Slam title.
