Win Local Polls, Build Base for 2029: Mithun Reddy to YSRCP Workers

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is gearing up to mount a strong campaign in the upcoming local body elections, with the party leadership urging its cadre to work collectively to secure victories across Anantapur district. A preparatory meeting was held at the party’s district office in Anantapur under the leadership of district president Anantha Venkatarami Reddy, with party regional coordinator and MP Mithun Reddy attending as the chief guest and outlining the strategy for the elections.

Addressing party workers, Mithun Reddy said the TDP-led coalition government had completed half of its term and claimed that its “interview” had effectively reached the halfway point. He contrasted the previous YSRCP government’s recruitment of a large number of village and ward secretariat employees with the current administration’s Mega DSC, alleging that the latter had faced criticism. He also claimed that farmers had been struggling for the past two years, while students and youth were protesting over employment opportunities.

Mithun Reddy further alleged that YSRCP workers were being booked in illegal cases and assured party activists that he would stand by them if such cases were filed. He said the party was distributing identity cards to around 10,000 workers in each constituency and that the cards would reach them within two weeks. Calling for coordinated efforts, he asked the cadre to ensure the victory of party-backed candidates in the Zilla Parishad, municipalities and corporations. Strengthening the party at the grassroots, he said, would help lay the foundation for a strong showing in the 2029 elections.

Parliament observer Naresh Reddy said the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government had implemented welfare schemes on an unprecedented scale. He accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of misleading voters with promises of delivering more welfare than Jagan. Claiming that public dissatisfaction with the coalition government was growing, he expressed confidence that voters would support the YSRCP in the local polls.

District president Anantha Venkatarami Reddy recalled the party’s 2014 defeat and said its workers remained committed, eventually helping the YSRCP return to power in 2019. He urged the cadre to explain the previous government’s welfare initiatives more effectively while strengthening the organisation at the grassroots.

Reddy also alleged rising corruption and the continuation of sand, liquor and mining mafias under the coalition government. He called on workers to highlight alleged government failures and the implementation status of the Super Six and 143 promises while keeping internal differences aside and working together to win the local elections. He said the polls were likely to be held in October or November.
