
Woman arrested with illegal weapons and ammunition in Patna
A woman was arrested in Bihar’s Patna on Monday for allegedly possessing illegal arms and ammunition , police said.
According to officials, the arrest was made from the Mehandiganj locality under the jurisdiction of the local police station. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a search operation at the woman’s residence and recovered a revolver, two pistols and 15 live cartridges from the premises.
Superintendent of Police (East) Parichay Kumar said the woman claimed that the weapons belonged to her late husband . However, she failed to produce any valid documents or licence to establish legal ownership of the firearms.
“The recovery was made during a search conducted based on specific information. The accused could not furnish the required documents for possessing the arms and ammunition,” the SP told reporters.
The woman has been taken into custody and a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act . Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the weapons and whether they were linked to any criminal activity.
