Woman dies, spa manager injured after jumping from window during police raid in Pune

A woman died and a spa centre manager was injured after they allegedly jumped from a first-floor window during a police raid on suspicion of a prostitution racket at a spa in Pune’s Viman Nagar area on Monday afternoon, officials said.

The incident occurred around 3.30 pm at Roots Spa , located in a commercial building, after a team from the Vimantal police station conducted a raid based on specific intelligence inputs suggesting illegal activities at the premises. Police said the spa had been under surveillance for some time .

During the operation, officers found several women and customers in separate rooms. When the police entered one of the rooms, they discovered two women along with the spa manager. Panic-stricken on seeing the police , one of the women and the manager allegedly attempted to escape by jumping from the first-floor window. Some reports said they initially tried to climb down using a drainage pipe before falling.

The woman sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. The injured manager, identified as Hussain Sheikh (30), who had been recently appointed at the spa , was admitted to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition .

Deputy Commissioner of Police Somay Munde said three to four women were rescued during the raid. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased woman was from West Bengal and had allegedly been lured into prostitution. An offence has been registered against the spa manager and the spa owner under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act .

Police have also filed an accidental death report in connection with the incident. Senior officers denied allegations of any delay in shifting the injured to hospital. Further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved and to determine the full circumstances leading to the tragedy.
