World Cup Final Tickets Back on Sale at USD 7,380 as Quarterfinal Resale Prices Fall
The feverish World Cup ticket market has begun to cool after the elimination of co-hosts the United States and Mexico , with resale prices for several quarterfinal matches dropping sharply even as FIFA unexpectedly released nearly 1,200 additional tickets for the final at USD 7,380 each.
According to ticket marketplace TickPick , the cheapest resale ticket for Friday's Spain vs Belgium quarterfinal at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, fell to USD 1,381 from USD 3,261 before the United States was knocked out in the round of 16. The lowest price for England vs Norway in Miami Gardens, Florida, dropped to USD 2,049 from USD 3,866 , while Argentina vs Switzerland in Kansas City, Missouri, fell to USD 1,142 from USD 2,381 .
For many supporters, the decline created a rare opportunity to experience football's biggest tournament. Jake van Baarsel , a 65-year-old from Riverside, California, said he purchased two tickets for about USD 1,000 each after his son found cheaper seats, allowing him to attend the match with his 13-year-old grandson.
Others who bought tickets earlier paid considerably more. Some fans described the prices as excessive, while others said they were willing to spend heavily for a once-in-a-lifetime event.
FIFA's official last-minute sales portal on Friday showed 1,178 category two tickets available for the World Cup final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey . The governing body was also selling 68 category one lower-deck tickets priced between USD 19,995 and USD 32,970 , along with premium hospitality packages costing more than USD 32,500 .
FIFA did not immediately explain why the additional final tickets became available. Meanwhile, resale listings for the championship match ranged from USD 7,440.50 to an eye-catching USD 11,499,998.85 , underscoring the extraordinary demand that still surrounds the tournament despite the recent easing in prices.
