World Record Again! Sumit Antil Dominates Javelin Throw Event, Breaks His Own Record
India’s star para-athlete Sumit Antil once again proved why he is regarded as one of the finest javelin throwers in the world after scripting history at the Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old Paralympic champion broke his own world record in the men’s javelin throw F64 category with a sensational effort of 74.82 metres , surpassing his previous best of 73.29 metres that he had achieved during the 2022 Asian Para Games.
With the massive throw, Antil added yet another remarkable chapter to his already glittering career. The athlete from Haryana’s Sonipat has dominated international para athletics over the past few years and continues to raise the standards of the sport with every competition.
The latest record is another reminder of Antil’s extraordinary consistency and hunger for excellence. Even after conquering the Paralympics and World Championships multiple times, the Indian star continues to push his own limits. His long-term ambition now is to breach the prestigious 80-metre mark , a distance that even many able-bodied athletes struggle to achieve.
Antil’s journey to the top has been nothing short of inspirational. In 2015, he lost his left leg below the knee following a devastating motorbike accident. Before the tragedy, he was an able-bodied wrestler and a student at Delhi’s Ramjas College. What could have ended a sporting dream instead became the beginning of a remarkable new chapter.
A para athlete from his village introduced him to javelin in 2018, and since then there has been no looking back. Within a few years, Antil transformed himself into a global superstar in para athletics through relentless hard work, discipline and determination.
He won gold medals at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games , while also clinching World Para Athletics Championships titles in 2023, 2024 and 2025 . He further cemented his dominance by winning gold at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
Competing in the F64 category, meant for athletes with lower limb impairments competing with prosthetics or leg length differences, Antil has not only become India’s biggest para athletics icon but also a symbol of resilience and inspiration for millions.
With another world record now under his belt, Sumit Antil’s golden journey appears far from over. And if his current form is anything to go by, the dream 80m throw may only be a matter of time.
