Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reaffirmed India’s commitment to wildlife conservation on the occasion of World Wildlife Day 2026 , highlighting the need to protect the planet’s rich faunal diversity and sustain ecological balance.

In a series of social media posts, the Prime Minister extended his greetings and emphasised that World Wildlife Day is about celebrating the incredible faunal diversity that enriches our planet and sustains our ecosystems . He said it is also a day to acknowledge the efforts of everyone working towards wildlife protection. Reaffirming India’s resolve, he underlined the importance of conservation, sustainable practices and protecting habitats so that wildlife continues to thrive.

Referring to India’s cultural ethos, Modi noted that the country’s scriptures pray for the welfare of all living beings and inspire sensitivity towards wildlife along with conservation efforts, reflecting a long-standing tradition of living in harmony with nature.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav also marked the day with a message describing it as a celebration of Earth’s extraordinary biodiversity. He stressed that preserving wildlife is not merely an environmental necessity but a shared responsibility , calling for continued efforts across society to protect the natural heritage of the planet.

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Yadav said India remains mindful of the many dangers threatening its ecosystems. “We therefore remain committed to not just conserving what we have, but also recovering key species for ecosystem restoration,” he stated, highlighting the focus on both protection and species recovery.

Observed every year on March 3, World Wildlife Day celebrates wild animals and plants while recognising their unique roles and contributions to people and the planet. The day underscores the collective responsibility to conserve biodiversity for ecological balance and long-term human well-being.
