Your Life Is Important: Cop Saves Young Man From Suicide Attempt in Delhi
A quick response by the Delhi Police PCR unit prevented a suicide attempt on the Mahipalpur flyover , where a distressed young man was found standing dangerously close to the edge, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident was triggered after a public emergency distress call alerted the PCR unit. The team reached the spot within minutes and found the man in an agitated condition, appearing ready to jump.
Sub-Inspector Anil Sharma , who led the intervention, immediately began a calm dialogue to de-escalate the situation. During the conversation, he repeatedly told the man, “ Please don’t take any step forward, we are here to help you ,” and “ Your life is important, talk to us .”
Sharma continued engaging him with patient crisis communication , maintaining steady interaction and emotional reassurance. He also said, “ Take some water and breathe slowly, nothing will happen to you ,” while carefully keeping him engaged.
The officer offered drinking water and reassurance , while other personnel surrounded the area to prevent sudden movement.
At a critical moment, the team used a mobile phone distraction tactic , telling him, “ Check your phone, someone is calling you .” As the man got distracted, the PCR staff acted swiftly and pulled him away from the edge , rescuing him safely.
He was later handed over for medical evaluation and counselling support , as per standard police procedure in such cases. Officials also indicated that his family was informed and involved in the follow-up process.
Police sources said the PCR team is likely to receive formal appreciation for quick response and coordination , though no official order has been released yet.
The man was rescued without injuries, and authorities credited Sharma’s presence of mind and empathy for preventing the tragedy.
