Youth Innovation and Learning Key to India's Future: President Murmu
Education must serve a purpose far greater than individual success and become a tool for empowering the underprivileged, President Droupadi Murmu said on Wednesday while addressing the first convocation of the Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) in Anantapur.
Congratulating the graduating students, the President described the convocation as a defining milestone that reflects years of hard work, perseverance and determination. However, she reminded students that academic achievements also carry a responsibility to society. The knowledge and skills acquired through higher education, she said, should be used to uplift disadvantaged communities and contribute to the nation's progress.
Emphasising the importance of social responsibility, Murmu noted that every student's success is built not only on personal effort but also on the sacrifices of parents, the guidance of teachers and the support of society. As graduates step into professional life, whether as entrepreneurs, scientists, public servants or social leaders , they should remain committed to creating positive change and expanding opportunities for others.
The President expressed confidence that the Central University of Andhra Pradesh would evolve into a leading Centre of Excellence and make a meaningful contribution to India's long-term development goals. She said institutions of higher learning will play a critical role in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 , which aims to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary of Independence.
Praising the university's commitment to quality and inclusive education , Murmu said its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reflects a broader dedication to equitable growth and social progress. She observed that access to quality education remains one of the most powerful instruments for reducing inequality and building stronger communities.
Addressing the rapidly changing technological landscape, the President stressed that learning should not end with the award of a degree. The pace of innovation is reshaping industries across the world, making lifelong learning , adaptability and curiosity essential qualities for success. Students, she said, must continuously update their skills, embrace emerging technologies and remain open to new ideas.
Murmu also highlighted the importance of values such as integrity, compassion, empathy and respect for nature , describing them as the foundation of holistic development. Combining knowledge with creativity, resilience and a sense of responsibility, she said, would enable young people to transform challenges into opportunities and contribute to building a more prosperous and inclusive India.
The convocation ceremony was attended by Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer , Human Resources Development Minister Nara Lokesh , and Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav , who extended their congratulations to the graduating students.
