YS Jagan Calls For YSRCP To Contest Every Seat In Local Body Elections

YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked party leaders and cadres to gear up for the upcoming local body elections and ensure that the YSRCP contests every seat across the state.

Addressing constituency coordinators, in-charges and senior leaders at the party's central office in Tadepalli, Jagan said the elections should be treated as a major organisational challenge. He claimed that growing dissatisfaction with the ruling coalition government would be reflected in the results and expressed confidence that the YSRCP would register a strong victory if the polls were conducted in a free and fair manner.

Andhra Pradesh's local body elections are expected to be held in September or October 2026, although the State Election Commission is yet to announce the official polling schedule. Preparatory work for the elections is already underway, with the SEC moving ahead with electoral roll-related exercises.

Against this backdrop, Jagan directed party leaders to ensure that the YSRCP fields candidates for every position. He said the party would not encourage unanimous elections and warned that if a seat went uncontested, the concerned MLA or constituency in-charge could risk losing an Assembly ticket in the next elections. He said he would review reports on the conduct of the local body polls after the process was completed.

Jagan asked leaders to identify strong candidates and work collectively for their victory. He instructed party leaders to remain in their constituencies for the next two months, describing the period as crucial for strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.

He accused the coalition government of political harassment, illegal actions and misuse of the police machinery. Jagan directed the party's legal wing to actively respond to such issues and urged leaders to take the government's alleged anti-people policies to the public through media and social media platforms.

He also called for training for leaders who were not active on social media and asked cadres to make greater use of the ‘Jagan 2.0’ app. Stressing party unity, Jagan said personal egos had no place in the organisation and urged leaders to work as one team.

Alleging that some police officials were acting beyond their limits, he warned that their names could be recorded in a digital register for possible action in the future.

Jagan said that despite being in opposition for around two-and-a-half years, the YSRCP had strengthened its organisation down to the village level. He claimed that people were comparing the previous YSRCP government's five-year rule with the present administration.

Highlighting his government's record, Jagan cited initiatives in welfare, education, healthcare, agriculture and women's empowerment, including Nadu-Nedu, digital education, tablet distribution, village clinics, Aarogyasri expansion, medical recruitment, Rythu Bharosa Kendras and free crop insurance.

He also referred to measures involving 17 medical colleges, ports and fishing harbours, along with dialysis services, a kidney research centre and drinking water initiatives in the Uddanam region.

Jagan expressed confidence that public dissatisfaction with the coalition government would translate into votes for the YSRCP. The meeting was attended by party coordinators, constituency in-charges and other senior leaders representing all 175 Assembly constituencies.
