YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has urged party leaders and workers to stand by farmers affected by Cyclone Arnab, calling for effective relief measures and fair compensation for their losses. With paddy fields, aquaculture operations and fruit orchards suffering extensive damage, he stressed the need to ensure that farmers receive the support they deserve.

Addressing district presidents, regional coordinators and constituency in-charges through a video conference from the party’s central office in Tadepalli, Jagan called on the party cadre to raise farmers’ concerns with the government. He particularly emphasised the need to ensure that every grain of paddy is procured during the government’s procurement operations, preventing farmers from being left with unsold produce after the cyclone.

Jagan also criticised the state government over the response to the disaster, alleging that the weakening of village and ward secretariats and the abolition of the volunteer system had contributed to delays in relief operations. He directed party leaders to visit affected villages, interact with residents and extend support to families struggling to recover from the cyclone’s impact.

Meanwhile, YSRCP Ambedkar Konaseema district president and former MLA Chirla Jaggireddy toured cyclone-affected villages in the Kothapeta constituency to assess agricultural losses. During visits to Penikeru, Pinapall, Chintaluru and Suryaraopeta, he met farmers and tenant cultivators and listened to their grievances.

Jaggireddy expressed concern over the plight of cultivators who had borrowed heavily to finance their crops but were now facing financial uncertainty after the cyclone damaged their fields. He noted that tenant farmers were particularly vulnerable, as they must pay land rent despite losing their harvests, adding to their existing debt burden.

He urged officials from the Agriculture and Revenue departments to conduct immediate, comprehensive field inspections and record the actual extent of crop damage. The assessment process, he said, must be transparent and accurate to ensure that every eligible farmer receives compensation under government norms.

Jaggireddy also called for tenant farmers to receive due consideration in the relief process. He urged the government to expedite damage assessments and compensation payments, warning against unnecessary delays. Assuring affected cultivators of the party’s continued support, he said the YSRCP would take their concerns to the government and stand by them until their grievances were addressed.
