YS Jagan Pays Tribute to YSR on 17th Death Anniversary at Idupulapaya

YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday paid tribute to his father, the late former Chief Minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, at the YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya on his 17th death anniversary.

Jagan arrived at the memorial along with members of his family and offered floral tributes at YSR’s samadhi. The family later took part in special prayers conducted by religious leaders at the memorial. Y.S. Vijayamma, Y.S. Bharathi and other family members were also present to pay their respects to the late leader.

The anniversary brought a large number of YSRCP leaders, former and serving public representatives, senior party members, workers and supporters to Idupulapaya. Visitors from different parts of the state offered garlands and flowers at the memorial as they remembered the former Chief Minister and his political legacy.

Party leaders and workers recalled YSR’s role in expanding welfare initiatives, particularly those focused on farmers and economically weaker sections. They also highlighted his efforts to make education and healthcare more accessible to the poor, describing him as a leader who combined welfare policies with a strong focus on development.

YSR served as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009. Over his political career, he was elected four times to the Lok Sabha from Kadapa and six times as an MLA from Pulivendula, establishing himself as one of the state’s most influential political figures.

His death in 2009 came while he was serving as Chief Minister, after the helicopter carrying him went missing in the Nallamala forest region and was later found to have crashed. The accident claimed the lives of YSR and five others on board, marking a tragic end to the life of a leader whose political and welfare legacy continues to resonate in Andhra Pradesh.
