YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday welcomed the resumption of construction work on the JSW integrated steel plant in YSR Kadapa district , describing it as a crucial step towards accelerating industrial growth in Rayalaseema and creating employment opportunities for local youth.

In a post on social media platform X, Jagan congratulated JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal and the company's team on the revival of the project. He said the steel plant would serve as an important catalyst for economic development in the region and help strengthen the industrial base of Rayalaseema.

Recalling the origins of the project, Jagan said that large industrial ventures of this scale become possible only through years of planning, coordination and sustained efforts. He asserted that it was during the tenure of the previous YSRCP government that JSW was finalised as the project developer and the groundwork for the steel plant was laid.

According to him, the former government facilitated all the critical requirements needed for the project, including environmental clearances, water allocations, land allotments, road connectivity and supporting infrastructure . These measures, he said, provided a strong foundation that enabled construction activities to move forward rapidly during his administration.

Jagan also expressed disappointment that the project had remained largely stalled over the past two years, citing delays in investments and execution. However, he described the restart of construction as a welcome development and said it offered renewed hope for the long-awaited project.

Stressing that development should not be constrained by political boundaries , the former chief minister said every government has a responsibility to continue and complete projects initiated by previous administrations when they serve the larger public interest. Continuity in governance, he noted, is essential for ensuring that major investments translate into tangible benefits for people.

Referring to Kadapa as his home district, Jagan said the region holds a special place in his heart and that he has always wanted local youth to benefit from industrialisation and secure jobs closer to home.

He expressed hope that the steel plant would now progress without further interruptions and urged JSW to expedite the construction process so that the people of Kadapa and the wider Rayalaseema region can benefit from industrial growth, investment and employment opportunities at the earliest.
