YS Sharmila Hits Back at ‘Baseless’ Political Speculation on Social Media

Andhra Pradesh Congress president YS Sharmila on Tuesday dismissed the reports circulating on social media about her political activities as fabricated stories, saying the claims were completely baseless and had no connection with reality. She said speculation that she had met certain political leaders or was preparing to join another political party was part of a false campaign against her.

Taking to X, Sharmila said the stories and political analyses being circulated about her were without any foundation. She accused those who were opposed to her of making allegations without substance and said she strongly condemned the ongoing speculation.

Sharmila specifically addressed reports linking her with YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. She clarified that the last occasion on which she met Jagan was when she invited him to her son YS Raja Reddy’s wedding. She said any meeting with him now would similarly be limited to extending an invitation to her daughter YS Anjili Reddy’s wedding.

She made it clear that inviting political leaders to a family wedding was not unusual and should not be interpreted as a political development. Sharmila said she would extend invitations to the heads of all political parties to attend her daughter’s wedding, describing it as a customary gesture associated with a family celebration.

Rejecting suggestions that she could use the wedding as an opportunity for political negotiations, Sharmila said she had no reason to engage in behind-the-scenes politics by using her daughter’s marriage as a pretext. She said her identity as the daughter of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy did not allow room for such conduct.

Sharmila also objected to attempts to connect a personal family occasion with political developments. She warned that efforts to create such a link could undermine her political credibility and the trust that people have placed in her.

She said she would not remain silent if false reports were deliberately circulated with the intention of damaging her reputation or questioning her political standing. Sharmila reiterated that the social media claims about her alleged political meetings and possible shift in political allegiance were untrue and baseless.

Her statement comes amid continuing speculation on social media about her political engagements. By clarifying the purpose of any interaction with political leaders, Sharmila sought to separate her family commitments from political activity and reject interpretations being attached to the wedding invitations.
