YSRCP Accuses Chandrababu Naidu of Misleading BCs on 34% Reservation Promise
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused the TDP-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh of misleading Backward Classes (BCs) by failing to fulfil its promise of providing 34 per cent reservations to the community. Ramesh Goud, state working president of the YSRCP BC Cell, alleged that the government was issuing orders that failed to withstand legal scrutiny, thereby denying BCs the promised benefits.
The YSRCP organised a protest outside the Zilla Parishad office in Anantapur, led by Goud, to condemn the coalition government’s stand on BC reservations. Following the demonstration, party leaders submitted a memorandum at the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar, demanding justice for the community.
Addressing the gathering, Goud alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had promised 34 per cent reservations to BCs during the elections but had failed to honour the commitment after assuming office. He said the High Court had struck down government orders concerning BC reservations because the proposed quota exceeded the 50 per cent reservation ceiling. He further claimed that the Supreme Court had rejected the state government’s petition on the issue.
Goud questioned why the government was not pursuing the necessary legislative amendments in Parliament despite being aware of the legal hurdles. He demanded that the Union government take steps to provide a permanent legal solution to the reservation issue.
Criticising the TDP’s role in the BJP-led NDA government, Goud said the party had failed to demonstrate the political will needed to resolve the problem. He urged Chandrababu Naidu and his ministers to raise the issue with the Prime Minister and work towards the required amendments instead of limiting themselves to visits to New Delhi.
He also accused the coalition government of treating BCs as a vote bank. Claiming that the previous government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had ensured political representation and recognition for BCs, Goud vowed to continue the agitation until their demands were addressed. He warned that the YSRCP would intensify its campaign across Andhra Pradesh if the government failed to act.
Several state and district-level BC leaders, former Zilla Parishad vice-chairperson Nag Ratnamma, women leaders and party workers participated in the protest.
