Leaders of the YSR Congress Party have criticized the alleged involvement of Eluru MP Putta Mahesh in a drugs party case in Telangana , calling it a serious embarrassment to the reputation of Andhra Pradesh . Speaking to the media on Monday, party leaders Rachamalla Shivaprasad Reddy and S.V. Mohan Reddy claimed that the consumption of narcotic substances has risen sharply in the state since the coalition government assumed power.

They expressed concern that Andhra Pradesh , once widely known as Annapurna for its agricultural prosperity, is gradually becoming a centre for drugs and ganja . Rachamalla Shivaprasad Reddy pointed out that a ruling party MP being caught during a raid at a farmhouse in Moinabad, Rangareddy district , is a matter of serious concern.

He said reports suggesting gunshots during the police raid indicate the possible presence of a larger drug mafia network behind the incident. He also criticized the government for allegedly focusing more on the politically driven “Red Book” campaign instead of taking firm action to curb drug abuse. He demanded that MP Putta Mahesh Yadav accept moral responsibility and step down from his post immediately.

Meanwhile, Kurnool district YSRCP president S.V. Mohan Reddy questioned why Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu , who had promised to make the state drug-free during the elections, has not responded after an MP from his party was reportedly caught in a drugs case. He said the involvement of a Member of Parliament in such unlawful activities amounts to betraying the trust of the voters and urged the Chief Minister and Minister Nara Lokesh to clarify their position.

The raid, carried out by a special team of Telangana Police , reportedly resulted in the detention of the MP along with ten others , triggering a major political controversy. YSRCP leaders demanded a comprehensive investigation into the incident and insisted that strict action be taken against those responsible, regardless of their influence or status.
