YSRCP Demands Justice for Assaulted Tribal Woman in Kavali
The alleged assault on a Scheduled Tribe (ST) woman in Kavali town has triggered a political storm, with leaders of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) demanding swift justice and accusing the authorities of failing to act impartially.
A delegation led by YSRCP District President and former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy and former Kavali MLA Ramireddy Pratap Kumar Reddy visited the victim’s residence in the town’s 24th Ward on Monday. The leaders met the woman and her family members, assuring them that the party would stand by them until justice is served.
Addressing the media after the visit, Ramireddy Pratap Kumar Reddy alleged that the handling of the case had raised serious concerns about the state of law and order under the coalition government. He claimed that despite allegations linking the attack to an individual who had previously contested as a TDP councillor candidate , the investigation was not being conducted in a fair manner.
The former MLA questioned the manner in which the accused had been named in the case and demanded a review of the First Information Report (FIR) . He urged the police to ensure that all those responsible for the attack are booked appropriately and brought to justice without political interference.
The YSRCP leader also alleged that a case had been registered against the victim’s son and called for its immediate withdrawal if found to be unjustified. He stressed that the investigation should remain transparent and free from external influence.
The incident has also renewed attention on the implementation of protections available under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act , a law designed to safeguard members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from violence, discrimination and intimidation. Political leaders and social activists have increasingly called for prompt action in such cases to strengthen public confidence in the justice system.
Appealing to the State SC/ST Commission , the YSRCP leaders sought immediate intervention to ensure that the victim’s family receives all statutory benefits and assistance available under the law. They also questioned the government’s claims regarding women’s safety , arguing that incidents of this nature continue to expose gaps in protection at the grassroots level.
The party urged the Nellore District Superintendent of Police to conduct a thorough inquiry and take stringent action against those found guilty. Warning of a wider agitation if justice is delayed, the leaders said the party would launch protests under the leadership of YSRCP President Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to safeguard the rights and dignity of tribal communities.
