YSRCP Leader Kakani Slams ‘Biased Policing’, Calls Case Politically Motivated
Former minister and YSR Congress Party district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy has alleged that he is being harassed through illegal cases and inconsistent police action over his remarks on the minor girl’s death near Kovur. The Kovur police had earlier issued notices asking him to appear for questioning on February 14 , but as he was preparing to leave, another notice postponed the inquiry to February 19 , raising doubts about the police conduct. Speaking at a media conference at his residence in Nellore, he said a large number of party leaders and supporters gathered after learning he would attend the inquiry, following which police again visited his home and stated that his presence was not immediately required and that officials would instead collect details from him later.
Questioning what he called “overenthusiasm,” Kakani said police rushed to serve notice late at night and later reversed their stand, calling the process confusing and harassment in the name of inquiry. He argued that his comments on the incident were similar to those made by other leaders, including the local MLA and Wakf Board chairman, and asked why notices were issued only to him. He also condemned notices being sent via WhatsApp to his daughter Kakani Poojitha , working president of the party’s women’s wing. Alleging a coalition government conspiracy, he claimed false cases are being filed against him and his family to silence dissent, and accused the police machinery of acting in a biased manner .
Referring to the incident in Gummaladibba , he said the death shocked society and alleged that tension was created when he tried to console the victim’s family. He noted that the FIR mentions the girl was forcibly administered poison and cited the father’s claim that proper treatment was not provided at government hospitals in Kovur and Nellore. He said their comments also raised concerns about crimes linked to ganja abuse , questioning why similar remarks by others did not invite action. Kakani further questioned women’s safety in the state and criticized the N. Chandrababu Naidu government for failing to eliminate ganja despite earlier promises. Stating he is aware of POCSO Act provisions and did not reveal the victim’s identity, he asserted he is not afraid of false cases.
