YSRCP Seeks CBI Probe Into Sai Krishna Custodial Death, Alleges Biased Inquiry

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has renewed its demand for a CBI investigation into the custodial death of Sai Krishna, expressing strong doubts over the ongoing magisterial inquiry and alleging that the probe is being steered in a way that could protect key accused.

Former minister and YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu said the case must be investigated on the lines of custodial death cases in Tamil Nadu, where authorities took stringent action against those found responsible. He demanded that all individuals involved be identified and prosecuted, insisting that the guilty should face the maximum punishment under law , including capital punishment wherever applicable.

YSRCP leaders submitted a detailed written representation to officials conducting the magisterial inquiry, raising objections over what they described as a selective and limited investigation approach . They alleged that the probe appears to be focusing on a single police officer while ignoring others who may have played a role in the incident.

Ambati Rambabu termed the case a serious custodial death incident that has triggered widespread concern. He alleged that Sai Krishna was subjected to custodial violence resulting in his death, and further claimed there were attempts to suppress or destroy evidence , including doubts over the handling of the body and related records.

He also questioned the credibility of internal police mechanisms investigating allegations against the same system. Such cases, he said, require independent scrutiny, and reiterated the demand for a CBI probe along with a judicial inquiry to ensure transparency and fairness.

The party urged authorities to secure and examine CCTV footage, mobile data, and other digital evidence from all relevant locations without delay. Any attempt to dilute or delay evidence collection, they warned, would amount to denial of justice to the victim’s family and the public.

Former MLA TJR Sudhakar Babu said the delegation had formally submitted its concerns to inquiry officials. He alleged that there is an attempt to close the case by fixing responsibility on a single officer while shielding those who allegedly ordered Sai Krishna’s detention.

He demanded full disclosure of those who authorized the detention and called for examination of CCTV footage from Markapuram to Vijayawada. He stressed that the issue is not political but a serious human rights matter requiring an independent probe.

Former MLA Malladi Vishnu criticised the SIT and magisterial inquiry, describing them as inadequate and superficial. He said only a CBI-led investigation can reveal the complete truth and ensure accountability.

YSRCP leaders reiterated that they will continue their agitation until justice is delivered and all responsible persons are brought before law.
